Your Community Needs You: Campaign launched to secure volunteer Board members in Donegal

Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) and the Donegal Volunteer Centre have launched a campaign to encourage people to become voluntary Board members of community organisations across Donegal.

The initiative aims to connect community groups with individuals who have management, governance, or professional skills and are willing to contribute their expertise to support the work of local organisations.

Board vacancies exist in community organisations across the county, from Ballyshannon to Magheroarty and everywhere in between.

Opportunities may include serving on a Board for a one-year term, supporting a specific project, or providing advice and guidance over an agreed period.

As part of the campaign, a series of events will take place across the county. The first event takes place on Thursday, 1st October, at the Central Hotel, Donegal Town, with sessions running from 11am-1pm and 5pm-7pm. Motivational speaker, Evelyn McGlynn from Donegal Giving will be presenting at the event at 6pm. Staff and specialist advisors from Donegal Volunteer Centre and DLDC will also be available on the day to provide information on community groups and organisations that are seeking Board members and volunteer support.

Professional organisations, businesses and employers are invited to support the initiative by attending the event, hosting a stand, or encouraging staff members to become valued volunteers and Board members with local community organisations.

DLDC Community Development Manager Martin McDevitt says:

‘Community organisations are at the heart of communities and this is your chance to get involved and help make your community stronger. There are many opportunities across Donegal to support local organisations as a voluntary board member. Roles include administration, fundraising, secretary, PRO, social media and HR support. Volunteering on a board is a rewarding way to give back, develop new skills and make a real difference in your community.‘

Donegal Volunteer Centre Manager Eamonn Bonner says:

‘Community organisations across Donegal benefit greatly from the knowledge, experience and expertise that skilled volunteers can bring. Their contribution helps groups strengthen governance, deliver projects and continue providing services within their communities.‘

The Donegal Volunteer Centre is managed by DLDC.

This project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union. For more information, please visit https://eufunds.ie/
