Short Story & Poetry Competition for Young Writers run by North West Words

Entries are invited by writers for 3 categories…
- Primary Schools.
- Secondary Schools Junior Cycle.
- Secondary Schools Senior Cycle
(Competition judge is Deirdre Hines)
Short Story: Can be on any theme, maximum 1,000 words per story.
Poetry: Can be on any theme, maximum of 40 lines per poem.
Entries must be your own original work and not previously published.
Entries cannot be changed once entered for the competition. Entries cannot be returned.
Entries sent by email must be enclosed in the body of the message (to avoid attached files being encrypted / not possible to open). Attached documents WILL NOT be accepted.
Entries sent by Post should be accompanied by a cover sheet with the writer’s name, address, school address, a contact phone number, title of piece and category.
The writer’s name should NOT be printed on their entry.
There is NO CHARGE to enter the Pramerica Young Writer Competition.
Judge’s decision is final.
Copyright of each entry remains with the author, but North West Words & Pramerica will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning poems & stories on their website, other media and in press releases publicising the competition.
The winners of each category of each competition will receive a prize sponsored by Pramerica.
A ‘ Young Writer of the Year 2020’ prize will also be awarded to one of the shortlisted finalists.
Closing date of the Competitions is 6.00 pm Monday, May 18th 2020.
Presentation of prizes will be subject to Government Guidelines on Public events during Covid -19 in June
