Last week, Arranmore Island was a hive of activity as islanders took part in safety training.
Atlantic Marine Training, a leading training provider for Marine SAR, and Accredited Leisure made the long trip from Co Wicklow to Arranmore to deliver the training which is supported by the Empowering Communities Programme.
24 people took part in the training, many of whom already have a wealth of maritime experience from being involved in local rescue teams, the fishing sector, and ferry operations.
Upon completion of the intense training in adverse weather conditions, each participant earned National Powerboat and Safety Boat certification.
Atlantic Marine Training praised participants for ‘digging deep’ and their hard work to complete the training.
